SSL certificates
An SSL certificate is what puts the padlock in the address bar. It means the connection between your customer and your website is private, so nobody in between can read what they type.
You probably already have one
Every hosting plan includes a free certificate that installs and renews itself. For most small business websites, that is all you need, and you don’t have to do anything.
We’d rather tell you that than sell you something you don’t need.
When a paid certificate makes sense
- You want your business name verified. Some certificates come only after the issuer checks your business is real, and they show your company name in the certificate details.
- You need to cover many subdomains. A wildcard certificate covers shop.yourbusiness.com, mail.yourbusiness.com and the rest with one certificate.
- Your site isn’t hosted with us. If your website runs somewhere without a free certificate, you can still buy one here.
Paid certificates from DigiCert’s RapidSSL, GeoTrust and DigiCert brands start at $17.95 a year.
